Early morning action

We went to a dam near us early in the morning to watch birds. We saw Black-winged Stilts, Yellow-billed ducks, Blacksmith Lapwings, Egyptian Geese, Little Egret and three Little Grebes.

All of these birds are common although we saw behaviour that we never saw before. A Little Grebe in breeding plumage was chasing another Little Grebe which was not in breeding plumage. At first I thought that it was a male chasing a female because he wanted to mate. But with further research I found out that females and males look the same and both plumage change in breeding season. So it was a male chasing another male in winter plumage away from his mate (also in breeding plumage), a behaviour described in most bird guides.
